So; You're ready to Renovate: Do Interview

You've finally decided; it's time. Your space is out of sorts and needs some work! You know your style, direction and maybe even have a design sorted out. Now you need a contractor... But where do you begin? Well. It's time to start the interview process. Yes. it's a process, so don't jump in thinking you'll find your knight in shining armor with your first candidate. You should shop around. Pay attention to reviews, but don't rely solely on them. You'll need to cautiously schedule appointments with various contractors to get a sense of their ethics, capabilities and whether or not you can spend the next six months with them or their team in your home. It can be daunting, but take your time. Some will approach you with 'gimmicks' on pricing in order to entice you into signing on the dotted line; but give yourself time to get comfortable with what you're being told. Make sure your buying exactly what you expect to be, and as you interview be sure you're comparing 'apples to apples'. We recommend speaking to at least three to four qualified contractors before you consider settling on one. No matter how much you like one of the other. This will give you time to consider your options, but also an opportunity to weed out the folks that you don't see yourself working well with. If you're a price shopper, be skeptical of low-ball pricing. Sure, it sounds great not paying as much, but if that price isn't inline with other companies you've interviewed, chances are they missed something or they aren't providing the same quality of workmanship. That's not to say the highest price is better. There are plenty of qualified contractors out there who do amazing work at a reasonable rate... but this is why you interview, and don't be afraid to ask for references. Past clients will often be brutally honest - even if they LOVE the contractor you're considering... and that opinion is the best one you could ask for. It means they experienced issues, but were happy with the results enough to continue to work with and recommend the contractor further! Overall. Take. your. time. Don't be afraid to interview with a contractor more than once either, especially if the project is large in nature. This is your home after all you deserve to be treated well at a price your family is comfortable with.
